Gravina in Puglia
Recently the town has acquired worldwide fame for the shooting of scenes from James Bond’s latest film. “No time to die”.
Together with renowned Matera, it is one of the best preserved examples of an archaeological ravine park.
Situated in the west part of the Alta Murgia National Park ,in between the Apulia and Basilicata regions, Gravina lies on a ravine more than 100 meters deep. The archaeological sites of Collina Petramagna and of Padreterno with their remains show the presence of humans settlements since the VI millennium b.C.
The town had a strategic importance under the Roman Empire and also in the Middle Ages as testified to by the ruins of Frederick’s II castle. Don’t forget to visit the Cathedral and Madonna delle Grazie’s church, with its impressive view over the ravine.
During the second half of April the town celebrates Saint George’s Fair, one of the oldest in Europe.
